R1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, * skip 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, skip 2 ch, 1 sc in next ch **, repeat * to ** to end of row. Turn.
R2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in same st as ch-3 just made, * skip 2 dc, 1 sc in next dc (the center st of the 5-dc shell), skip 2 dc, 5 dc in next sc **, repeat * to ** to end of row, ending the last repeat with 3 dc in last sc, skip turning chain. Turn.

To finish bonnet simply fold in half along foundation chain and stitch together. This seam will be at the back of the bonnet.

TIES (make 2): Ch 40 and attach to corner of bonnet. I used a larger hook and 2 strands of yarn together for this.

  1. This is so cute. Thank you for this. I’m wondering if I use a slightly larger hook if it would fit my 7 mth. old grand daughter… I will have to find out. Now my 10 year grand daughter likes it too….

  2. Hi there, these are adorable! I’ve just finished making the bonnet but it’s so so so tiny, that I think it might be better for a doll! Maybe I used to wrong wool… What was the finished size of your bonnet? Also what wool did you use?I made it again with a 5mm needle and it seemed better. So it must’ve been the wool I guess…

    1. Hi Sophia. Yes the yarn was pretty chunky. It would probably be better with a 4mm or 5mm hook. Thanks for your comment, I’ll figure it out and change the pattern.

  3. The end result was very pretty and it was quick to make as well. I used a 3mm hook and a bambu-cotton mix yarn, but to make it a bit bigger I crocheted 17 rows and double crochet lining to bottom sides. Looks nice as it gives a nice finishing touch to it and is cool during summer! Thanks so much for posting the pattern – I will next try the booties and then make matching mittens as well. 🙂

  4. Love this bonnet. It’s very similar to one I’ve made called the Lace Pixie Bonnet, the pattern for which can be found on Ravelry. I also like your Apricot Bonnet. Happy crocheting!

  7. Hi there, beautiful pattern. I was just wondering, what are the finished measurements or guage for this pattern? I am using Caron simply soft.

    Thanks

  8. I love love love this pattern. My cat (who you’ve seen via Ravelry!) was not pleased to be wearing a bonnet, but she did look quite darling in it — and the baby for whom it was made looked even better! I’ve made two more since and will post them on Ravelry soon. Thank you – this is honestly one of my favorite things to make.

  9. Adorable! I love bonnets and have made a few, I read through some of this pattern and I think I will try it when I get a chance lol Do you have a facebook page? Mine is Kehl Kreations

  10. It really is a nice quick simple pattern, but final measurements would be nice to have since we all use different yarn thickness… Thank you

  11. Thanks so much for sharing this pattern. I just finished my first bonnet and I am going to attempt the pattern for the booties as well. I was wondering if it would be possible for me to sell my finished product in my etsy shop giving you credit for the pattern.

    Thanks!

  12. Hi Crochetlatte! Love love this cute pattern. I would like to crochet one to fit a 12-month old. How many chains would I increase? I am having a hard time determining the correct number so the pattern also works out. Many thanks!
